What is the Girl's Brigade?

Girls' Brigade is an international Christian non-denominational uniformed organisation working in over 50 countries, with the aim to help girls to become followers of Jesus Christ and through self-control, reverence and a sense of responsibility to find true enrichment in life.

About Us

We are the 8th Airdrie company and one of the largest in the Monkland’s Division and active for over 70 years. We are a busy, lively, noisy, happy bunch led by 2 Captains: Lesley and Joyce and 14 Officers/Helpers. We currently have 76 girls on our roll, some of them are part of the church fellowship and some are from our local community with no other links to the church.

What do we Do?

We offer girls an opportunity to meet friends, have fun as they work and play together under trained Officers and learn new skills whilst taking part in exciting new activities. There are 3 different age groups and we do a variety of age appropriate activities with the emphasis on getting to know each other while learning valuable life-skills, and getting to know Jesus at the same time.

Programme of Events

Our programme is split into 4 main areas that in turn make up the badge work that is done by the girls during the session:

  • Spiritual
  • Physical
  • Educational
  • Service

At the end of each session we have a parents night where the girls demonstrate the badge work they have developed throughout the session. On this night the girls are awarded badges and other awards that they have achieved.

Here is a selection of some of the things we do in a typical GB session: learn about Jesus and the Bible, games, arts & crafts, cooking, cake decorating, singing, drama, dancing, sports, charity work, health & beauty, making friends.

Uniform Requirements

Officers, helpers and girls all have a uniform, which is practical and affordable. This provides us with a common identity and community. Orders can be placed through the company and more details are available on the Girls’ Brigade Scotland website. We also have a selection of “recycled” uniform items that are available for girls to borrow.

The registration fee is £20 per session for each girl and we ask that this is paid by the end of October. We have sponsored events to help cover this cost. We also ask girls to bring a collection of £1 each week and this goes towards the cost of resources etc.
